Positive lifestyle changes can reduce cholesterol and minimize its damage to your heart!

Today, I want to shed some light on the dangers of cholesterol and how we can make positive lifestyle changes to minimize the damage cholesterol can cause in our hearts.

Cholesterol is a silent assailant that can wreak havoc on our hearts. When levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) rise, it begins to deposit and build up in the arteries, forming plaques that narrow the blood vessels. This narrowing reduces blood flow to the heart, increasing the risk of heart disease and heart attacks.

So what can we do to keep our hearts healthy and our cholesterol at bay?

Choose Suitable Exercise

Get moving! Regular exercise not only boosts your overall fitness and reduces LDL levels but also increases HDL (the good cholesterol) that acts as a shield for your heart.

I always advise my patients to walk every day for 40 minutes which is one of the best exercises for your heart.

Heart-pumping aerobic exercises can do wonders for your heart.

Running, swimming, and cycling are other types of exercises that I recommend.

Make sure the exercise you choose enables you to reach 80% of your maximum heart rate. (How to calculate your maximum heart rate: 220 – your age x 80%)

Choose Right Food

Time to nourish your body with omega-3 rich food like fatty fish, fresh vegetables containing fiber, and nuts. These nutrients help reduce cholesterol levels, while dietary fibers keep your digestive system on track. Don’t forget to steer clear of trans fats from seed oils and processed food. I know it’s easier said than done but the benefits outweigh the cravings!

Choose Ways To Reduce Stress

Chronic stress can be detrimental on your heart by causing inflammation and driving up cortisol levels. Find healthy ways to unwind and manage stress, such as practicing mindfulness, engaging in hobbies, or spending quality time with loved ones. Your heart will thank you!

Choose Best Supplements

Consider adding heart-boosting supplements to your routine. Omega-3, CoQ10, and vitamin D supplements can provide an extra layer of protection for your heart arteries. Just remember, supplements are not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle, but they can complement your efforts.

So let’s prioritize our heart health and make these lifestyle changes. Your heart is a precious gem, and it deserves all the love and care in the world!
