About Doctor
Dr. Gotabhaya Ranasinghe is a distinguished Consultant Cardiologist and one of Sri Lanka’s foremost specialists in interventional cardiology. He has served as a Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and has provided national leadership as a former President of the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology. He also contributes to military medical services as a Voluntary Consultant Cardiologist to the Sri Lanka Navy, holding the honorary rank of Rear Admiral.
He obtained his MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, followed by MD in Medicine, and completed advanced specialist cardiology training at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom. His academic and professional excellence is reflected in an extensive suite of international fellowships:

Dr. Ranasinghe is the Founder of the Sri Lanka STEMI Forum, which introduced the nation’s first coordinated system for acute cardiac care. He is also the first to describe SCADLE Syndrome, a novel genetically linked vascular disorder now recognised internationally as a valuable contribution to cardiology.
His research has appeared in some of the most respected journals in the world, including The BMJ, The Lancet, JAMA, and the European Heart Journal, and he has participated in major global multicentre studies in hypertension and interventional cardiology. His contributions to science and medicine were honoured with the National APEX Award for Health and Medicine (2022), one of Sri Lanka’s highest recognitions for innovation and excellence.
In addition to his distinguished medical career, Dr. Ranasinghe is deeply committed to community service. He currently serves as the Senior Vice President and Brand Ambassador of the Lions Club of Colombo Ceylon Excellence, contributing to humanitarian, educational, and health-related initiatives across Sri Lanka.
He has also held numerous national and international leadership positions, including serving for two years as a member of the National Research Council. Within the Sri Lanka Heart Association, he has been both Treasurer and Vice President, and he is a former President and Treasurer of the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology. At the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, he chaired the Subspecialty Board, and he has contributed to academia as a Council Member of the University of Colombo. His commitment to advancing scientific and clinical excellence is further reflected in his past service as a Board Member of the National Science Foundation and as a Board Member of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology.
